What This Week’s Events Taught Me About Good vs. Evil

A blog about making art education more accessible and my own creative pursuits.

I took this photo last Saturday while making Snickerdoodles for a picnic (an indoor picnic). This photo encapsulates me at my worst, and makes me question why I have never been diagnosed with ADD. First off, I decided to make cookies only that morning for a picnic that day. Whilst making them on a time crunch, there was a need to take a picture of “Happy Boy Margarine” I may or may not have intentionally purchased from our corner Bodega. I was also somehow trying to finish folding laundry, clean my apartment and figure out how to get myself into downtown Manhattan on a weekend when the A train runs on the F line – plus find time for grooming since it wasn’t even noon and I was drenched in sweat. That might also be a bottle of wine on the table. Continue reading “Tips for Working Efficiently When You Aren’t Feeling Efficient”
“Animal Collective are basically indie rock’s greatest cock teases.” self-titled mag is my official favorite new magazine.
My little sister and I decided to stand and wait by the Green Stage for Animal Collective around 7:55 pm. Not only do you see people from all walks of life waiting in anticipation for Animal Collective (dreads, bandeau tops, and Lacoste polos), waiting for Animal Collective to start is a lot like a cock tease. You think the stage is already mind-blowing enough, and then they add another element.
“Okay cool, we got some festive hanging garlands…” Continue reading “Animal Collective Setting Up For Friday Night Pitchfork Performance”
My parents are fascinating people. They grew up on opposite sides of South Dakota, married at a young age and had four daughters who are all equally ambitious, level-headed and stubborn. As of two years ago, they are currently empty nesters a.k.a. in the prime of their life hitting the social scene of Newark, DE while working together on their own business. Married for over thirty years, they seem to have evolved into one person – which I guess is the point of marriage in the first place. Continue reading “Advice From My Parents”
On Tuesday Night I went to the Webutante Ball (courtesy of TechivesGiveBack) with my co-worker Tracy Fay, Community Manager at 360i and blogger at Modern Urban Living. We shared a car with Tracy’s friend Shannon Mechutan, TV producer, documentary filmmaker and blogger for Modern Urban Baby. Continue reading “Webutante Ball 2011 – Need to Learn to Pose Properly”
After somewhat of a hiatus, I’m blogging again. May 16th, the date I graduated from Hofstra last year, came and went. On May 22nd this year I watched from the bleachers as my boyfriend Bill walked across the same stage I did a year ago. Hours before, I had to take a pair of scissors to the sleeves of his gown because in his true fashion, he never ordered his cap and gown like he was supposed to and had to use what was left over. Sometimes I yearn for the days of St. Mark’s High School, where my mind was slightly more agile and getting an A on a psychology/philosophy/history/science test meant creating a list of important terms for each lesson and looking up their definition in the textbook’s glossary. My oldest sister Theresa currently has the highest level of education of my immediate family (Occupational Therapy Doctorate from Washington University of St. Louis) and would swear her life by flashcards. No offense to them, but such subjects have been in existence for at least a few hundred years and certain theories, definitions, and jargon are the norm of their field – you are sure to lose an argument if you disagree a term actually means something else. However, myself and everyone else in the field of digital marketing and social media would agree that with such a new field of “study” (speaking of Twitter that launched in 2007 and Facebook in 2004) less than 10 years old, figuring out exactly what the proper jargon is leads to more confusion in the workplace on a daily basis. I originally wrote this post last summer for PRestige Agency’s Blog. It’s internship-hunting season again and underclassmen keep asking me for advice about how to find the perfect internship. In anticipation for the promoteYOU workshop on April 29th, I decided to repost the entry just to give everyone a nice tidbit beforehand.
I have confidence in saying I am a seasoned intern. By the time I graduate next spring, I plan to have six internships total (SIX!), all varying from once-in-a-lifetime events (Final Presidential Debate at Hostra 2008), public relations (Rubenstein Associates, Inc.), non-profit art organizations (Newark Art Alliance), so on and so forth. I am currently wrapping up my event marketing internship with All Terrain. From my experience of being an over worked, unpaid, mostly grateful intern, I believe it necessary to provide the advice I wish I had many moons ago.
